How It Works
Advanced Treatments, Professional Setting
In addition to the services offered at Rocky Mountain Skin studio, Jake provides advanced machine-based treatments at Paul Mitchell The School in Salt Lake City. As a licensed Master Esthetics Instructor on staff, Jake has access to the school's professional-grade equipment — including IPL, laser tattoo removal, HydraFacial, and Medi Diode laser hair reduction machines.
These treatments are available on select Saturdays and Sundays. Because weekend availability varies and these are advanced services that require a more thorough consultation, they are not listed on the online booking system. Instead, reach out by email and Jake will work with you directly to schedule your appointment and walk through what to expect.

Intense Pulsed Light
IPL Photofacial
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses broad-spectrum light energy to target pigmentation, redness, sun damage, and visible blood vessels beneath the skin's surface. The light is absorbed by melanin and hemoglobin, breaking up discoloration and stimulating your skin's natural repair process.
IPL is one of the most effective non-invasive treatments for sun damage, age spots, rosacea-related redness, and uneven skin tone. It also stimulates collagen production over time, improving overall texture and clarity.
What IPL Treats
- Sun spots and age spots (hyperpigmentation)
- Rosacea and diffuse facial redness
- Broken capillaries and spider veins
- Uneven skin tone and texture
- Early signs of photoaging
What to Expect
During treatment, you'll wear protective eye shields. A cooling gel is applied and the IPL handpiece delivers pulses of light across the treatment area. Most clients describe the sensation as a warm snap — similar to a rubber band. Sessions typically last 20–40 minutes depending on the area. Mild redness afterward is normal and usually resolves within a few hours. Dark spots may temporarily darken before flaking off over the following 7–14 days — this is the pigment working its way out.
Most clients benefit from a series of 3–5 treatments spaced 3–4 weeks apart, though you'll notice improvement after your first session.

Ink Removal
Laser Tattoo Removal
Laser tattoo removal uses focused light energy to break down ink particles trapped in the dermis. Your body's immune system then gradually flushes the fragmented ink over the weeks following each session. With each treatment, the tattoo fades further.
The number of sessions depends on the tattoo's size, ink colors, age, depth, and your skin tone. Older tattoos and black ink tend to respond fastest. Multi-colored or densely saturated tattoos take more sessions, but nearly all tattoos can be significantly faded or fully removed with patience.
Good Candidates
- Fading a tattoo for a cover-up
- Full removal of unwanted ink
- Lightening a tattoo that didn't turn out as expected
- Removing tattoos that no longer fit who you are
What to Expect
The laser delivers rapid pulses of light that feel like hot pinpoints or grease splatter — it's not comfortable, but sessions are short. Afterward, the area may blister, swell, or scab. This is a normal part of the healing process. You'll keep the area clean, moisturized, and protected from sun. Sessions are spaced 6–8 weeks apart to give your body time to clear the ink between treatments.
During your consultation, we'll evaluate your tattoo, discuss realistic expectations for removal or fading, and map out a treatment timeline.
Deep Cleanse + Hydration
HydraFacial
HydraFacial uses patented vortex technology to cleanse, extract, and hydrate in one session. It's a step above a traditional facial — combining dermabrasion, chemical peel, automated extractions, and serum infusion into a single, non-irritating treatment.
The result is immediately visible: clearer pores, brighter skin, and deep hydration without any redness or downtime. It's one of the most versatile treatments available — effective for acne, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, oily skin, and dryness.

Long-Lasting Smoothness
Laser Hair Reduction
The Medi Diode laser delivers concentrated light energy directly to the hair follicle, disabling its ability to regrow. Unlike IPL (which uses broad-spectrum light), diode lasers use a single wavelength optimized for hair reduction — making treatments faster, more precise, and effective across a wider range of skin tones.
Laser hair reduction is ideal for anyone tired of the cycle of shaving, waxing, or threading. Most clients see dramatic, long-lasting results after 6–8 sessions.
Common Treatment Areas
- Face, upper lip, chin, and sideburns
- Underarms and arms
- Chest, back, and shoulders
- Bikini, Brazilian, and full legs
- Any area with unwanted hair growth
Area Size Guide
Small: Upper lip, chin, sideburns, ears, fingers, toes. Medium: Underarms, bikini line, neck, hands, feet. Large: Brazilian, half legs, full arms, chest, abdomen. Extra Large: Full legs, full back, full chest + abdomen.

Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are these services at Paul Mitchell The School instead of your studio?
These treatments require specialized, high-end machines — IPL devices, tattoo removal lasers, HydraFacial systems, and medical-grade diode lasers. As an instructor at Paul Mitchell The School, Jake has access to this equipment and offers treatments on weekends outside of class hours.
Is it the same quality as a med spa?
You're getting an instructor-level provider using professional-grade equipment in a clinical setting. Jake doesn't just operate these machines — he teaches other estheticians how to use them. The quality of care is the same or better than what you'd find at a med spa, often at a more accessible price point.
How do I book?
These services are not available through online booking because weekend availability changes week to week. Email jake@rockymtnskin.com or use the inquiry form above. Jake will get back to you within 1–2 business days to discuss your goals and find a time that works.
Do I need a consultation first?
Yes. All advanced services require a consultation before your first treatment. This is a safety and quality measure — it ensures the treatment is appropriate for your skin, your goals, and your medical history. Some consultations can be done via email or phone; others may need to be in person.
Can I get HydraFacial or laser hair reduction at your studio instead?
These machine-based treatments are only available at Paul Mitchell The School. At the Rocky Mountain Skin studio, Jake offers a wide range of facials, peels, microneedling, waxing, body treatments, and more — view studio services.
